The Annual meeting of the football league held at the old Boar Hotel, Manchester. The Football league re-elected Lincoln City and Loughborough to the Second Division and elected Burslem Port Vale to the Second Divison. Darwen failed to be re-elected and became a non league club. After the (match without a shot at goal) Test Match between Stoke and Burnley, it was proposed the First Division be expanded to 18 Clubs allowing that Blackburn Rovers remain in the First Division and Newcastle United be promoted the First Division. This left 4 places in the Second Division. Barnsley, Glossop and New Brighton Tower were elected to the Second Division and Darwen were re-elected. The decision to expand both divisions rendered the earlier test matches and vote on re-election of clubs pointless. This also meant that Darwen had been a non league club for about an hour, which must be some kind of record. |
